Trailer trash, or not as the case is..

I was going to write a review of Shooter .. but halfway through I realised I really didn't want to... and arguably, the review was shoved aside in order to fantasize about films I've yet to see ...

Shooter featured Marky Mark Wahlberg, he of the funky bunch ... and well, he's less funky now, but that's probably a good thing.. maybe he's been on the antibiotics or something. Anyway .. yes, Marky Mark (who some of you may remember as a white rapper wrapped in tighty whiteys courtesy of CK) has grown up and is continuing his, to date, fairly impressive film career with a film that may drag the average down a little in my opinion. Shooter also starred Danny Glover... who despite his protestations in Lethal Weapon, that he is "getting too old for this shit", seemed to cope admirably with "the shit" he had to deliver (that's the NSFW text over with then)

I really didn't rate the film very highly at all .. which is sad. It wasn't action enough to be an action thriller.. and it wasn't thought provoking enough to be anything but an action thriller... so .. it failed to be either. The pacing seemed particularly unsuitable for the action-thriller niche. Add to that that dialogue was delivered so badly at times, due in part to Marky's attempts to be a laid back killing machine, so laid back he could barely annunciate - I had to think really hard about what he was trying to say at times ... the plot was there, but didn't have much depth .. and I really don't want to write anything else about it... so it's fortunate that the trailers in the run up to the main event were something I wanted to mention ....

I'm particularly talking Transformers and 28 weeks later ... woof!

I .. can .. not .. wait .. for .. any .. them ... but I have to as they're not out over here for a few weeks/months.

Yes, they're trailers so their sole purpose in life is to make the film they're advertising look like it's worth watching... but eh, in the case of anything super hero'y* or related to childhood toys that change into.. other toys. Well, I'm already sold.

I sat watching the Transformers trailer for a good minute or two before I realised what I was watching. I sat there thinking how good the film looked; wondering what sci-fi marvel it was, squeeing at the sight of Spielburg's involvement, pondering if it could be T4.. and then.. then.. the fricking plane turned into a fricking robot.. with a fricking laser beam on its head. I almost yelled "That's what I'm talking about!!" to the rest of the audience, because, that was indeed what I'd be talking about! They .. look.. great! Though I'm positive the rose-tinted glassed of nostalgia may well be influencing my initial reaction. Time will tell, and nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

And then 28 Weeks later appeared .. and I knew instantly what the trailer was for, but that was ok, as it looks quite bleak, which is exactly how it should be.... very interested to see how that turns out.

*Just no-one mention Elektra or DareDevil or I will start hurting people.. as I've only just managed to forget about how dire they both were :)
